What to wear to an interview – the five most common job sectors we are asked about.
When it comes to interviews, it's important to dress appropriately and professionally to
make a positive impression. While the exact dress code can vary depending on the company
and industry, here are some general guidelines for the following professions:

1. Corporate/Professional Jobs:
A well-fitted suit (navy, grey, or charcoal), a dress shirt, a conservative tie, dress shoes, and
matching belt. Keep socks darker than pants and ensure dress shoes are polished and laces
are in fair to new condition.
2. Creative/Artistic Jobs:
A tailored blazer or sports coat, dress pants, a collared shirt (can be patterned or colourful),
dress shoes, and a coordinated tie or pocket square (optional). Depending on the formality
of the individual company and role you can leverage into a neat chino also and edit out the
tie.
3. Tech/IT Jobs:
Dress pants or chinos, a button-down shirt or a sweater/ knit, dress shoes or clean leather
sneakers, and a belt. Strictly no runners or joggers.
4. Healthcare/Professional Services Jobs:
A well-fitted suit (navy or dark grey), a dress shirt, conservative tie (if applicable), dress
shoes, and a matching belt.
5. Hospitality/ Retail:
Firstly, consider the brand or restaurant you are applying for. What do they sell or how do
their clients dress. Dark neat chino or a pattered dress pant. A collared shirt or neat casual
knit or pullover. Loafer or leather sneaker. Darker colours will prevent appearing too casual
and project a neat and polished aesthetic.
Remember, it is always better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed for an interview.
Pay attention to the company's culture and dress code if you can find that information
beforehand. If in doubt, it is acceptable to ask the interviewer or the HR representative
about the expected attire for the interview. An easy way to qualify this is asking “is there a
recommended dress code for the interview”?
Good Luck !!
